Since 2000, the Toronto Riot Rock Festival has been a night of insanity inside some of Toronto's smallest and most rockin' clubs. A chance to bring together a lot of larger local bands from various different scenes who might normally never play together on any shows. Give each band a short 25 minute set - and let the sparks fly!

Bands who have previously played the Toronto Riot Rock Festival include: Cancer Bats, I Hate Sally, Black Lungs, Damn 13, The Video Dead, Bad Blood, PDH, Fever Out!, Hell Yeah Fuck Yeah, Puddy, Twinfold, Neva, and Jaww.

The Riot Rock Festival is a chance for bands from different scenes to meet each other, make connections and have a great time.

As we prepare for SXSW each year, we pore over the lists of hundreds upon hundreds of bands, making a schedule of sets to catch that is booked to the minute of each and every day. Inevitably each year this schedule falls to the wayside somewhat, once one realizes that certain bands are playing 15 minutes apart at opposite ends of the city of Austin, but it's a definitely a good place to start. With that in mind, here are 10 of the bands we've set our sights on for SXSW 2010.

#2: Bastard Child Death Cult
Formed by the members of several legendary Canadian punk bands including Cancer Bats and Monster Voodoo Machine, Bastard Child Death Cult (BCxDC) take the two seemingly discordant sounds of brutal D-beat hardcore and thick, fuzzy garage and fuse them into a bizarre amalgam. It's a sound that sets its hooks into you, then reels you in to punch you right in the mouth.

BCxDC are scheduled to play SXSW WED. MARCH 17 @ RED 7 - at 8 pm.

STEREO DYNAMITE RECORDINGS ANNOUNCE THE SIGNING OF TORONTO HORROR SURF PUNK BAND THE von DRATS.

BAND TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM "DRATSYLVANIA" ON MARCH 9, 2010

Toronto, ON - Stereo Dynamite Recordings are pleased to announce the signing of surfing crypt keepers: The von Drats. A band so terrifyingly groovy, one listen to their debut album "Dratsylvania" and you'll be trapped forever under their sonic spell!

Originally hailing from the mysterious Dratsylvania, the band relocated to Toronto in 2005 where their strange appearances (looking like extras from The Addams Family or a cartoon hot rod gang) and creepy, rowdy and kooky high energy surf punk live shows have made them a favorite with the local late, late, LATE(!) night ghastly Go-Go crowd.

The lightning fast long arm of the drums, Leonard von Drat, bids you welcome and keeps everyone in stitches with his rapid fire wit. An uncontrollable wildman, Dave von Drat sets the mood with the spooky sounding Farfisa organ and spastic movements that would even leave old Uncle Fester in shock. The big brother Trevor von Drat quite easily transitions from being a calm and collected surf guitar gentlemen to a garage rock growling life of the party. The werewolf cursed DanO von Drat stares wild eyed and lays down a solid and smooth bass foundation for his savage kin to play over. The youngest brother, Steve von Drat, is a surf guitar sharp-shooter and a reverb tank riding creature that will leave you in disbelief. Add to the mix on most nights, little sister Holly von Drat twisting and shaking everyone into a frenzy - and you've got a live experience that you'll never forget!

The band have just finished recording their self-produced Stereo Dynamite debut album "Dratsylvania" (set for a March 9th release date). Featuring 13 twangy and twisted tunes that should appeal to fans of 60's surf rock, horror punk, or classic monster movies. "Dratsylvania" is the soundtrack to the greatest, grooviest, demons-on-dirtbikes film you've never seen.

The von Drats are currently planning spring and summer tours.

TORONTO, ON. - After several years of releasing mostly ska-punk and psychobilly albums, the Stereo Dynamite offices suddenly got a hell of a lot noisier with the recent addition to the label roster of Toronto-based hardcore punk, rock n' roll killing machine BASTARD CHILD DEATH CULT.

Together for less than a year, BC x DC feature x-members of 2 of Toronto's loudest and hardest rocking bands DAMN 13 and CANCER BATS. The band describe themselves as "a secret society in the underbelly of the Toronto music scene. A collective of noise merchants who will stop at nothing to preserve the city's legacy of "amps-on-11, adrenalin-overdrive, chaos-at-all-costs" hardcore-punk Rock N' Roll gospel." Musically, the band come across as a unique hardcore-punk mix of old school (Black Flag, Void) and the new school (The Bronx, Victims).

The band have just finished recording their debut album with producer Jon Drew (Tokyo Police Club / Fucked Up). Stereo Dynamite are aiming for a June release date for the as-of-yet untitled album.
